This rare landmark was known as the“Tourist Church”, when it was constructed. It is located at 501 N Wild Olive Avenue in Daytona Beach Florida. Built in 1929, it was designed by an architect Harry Griffin, a noted architect in Daytona Beach during that time. It is built in the Mission/Spanish Colonial Revival style of architecture. On October 6, 1995, it was added to the National Register of Historic places. The walls are built of solidified marl rock called “bog rock,” mined on a ridge west of Daytona Beach. The rock is thousands of years old and contains ancient shells and is no longer readily available. Some of the stained glass windows have been a part of the structure since 1929. There are a total of 33 leaded stained glass windows in the sanctuary which were restored and refitted in 2009 with a matching Volusia County ECHO (Environment, Cultural, Historic and Outdoors) grant. We will enjoy a holiday concert on the exquisite Visser-Rowland pipe organ which has been the centerpiece of many concerts.
