We are lucky to live in such a multi-cultural society...Hmm...while I understand the sentiments of such words Im not sure lucky is the appropriate word and indeed detracts somewhat from the reality of our history. Economic migrants whose commitment to a better life for their families and those they left behind who were given little or no rights, in many cases squatting with young families in rooms and taking turns to sleep in shared beds, working jobs the indigenous people believed were beneath them, the legacy of the empire of the commonwealth that spread across the world. An empire that contributed to the nations wealth through the riches of the countries it spread through. Lucky to be here? No without the efforts of such people & the contributions of such nations there would be no here. Let us not belittle our history through using words such as lucky & acknowledge without the contribution of the multitude of cultures that make up the society of Britain as we know it, indeed this nation would not be so great.
