We are never separate from God. We can never be separated from God. Even if we want we cannot be separate. As soon as your thoughts subside, your desires disappear, you believe that you are with God. Ques: This material world looks like the truth. But it is not truth and it keeps changing and is filled with misery. How can it be truth and untruth at the same time? #SriSri: You are right when you say that it looks like truth. But it is not so. Let me give a small example. A river is is new or old? Answer this. Both. How can it be both? Yes it is both. It is thousands of years old but it is new every moment. Every moment it carries new water. In the same way, the world appears to be there but it keeps changing every moment. Hence it cannot be called the truth. What is the definition of truth? Definition of truth is that it remains the same in the past, present and future. By this definition this world is not truth. But it doesn’t mean that it is not there at all. It is not the same all the time, but it is there. Ques: If follow the principle of non-duality then how can we believe in different Gods? #SriSri: There is only one light, that is non-duality. But one ray of light has different colours in it is believing in different Gods. When a ray of light passes through a prism or water, it splits into seven colours. Each colour can be considered as one of the Gods.. you have to take both along, that is where intellect comes into play. Both are true. Like all wooden things here are all wood but a door is not a chair. That is duality. So duality and non-duality always go together. The objective of knowledge is to take the mind from smallness to bigness. That’s all. The aim of all knowledge is to make it say “Haan”(yes).. When the intellect says yes, then we get into “hoon”(I am). Then from “hoon” we go to “Hain” (It is). “Hoon” also stems from the ego, a sense of separateness. So you have to move from “hoon” to ”hain”, everything just is. So the flow of life is to move from “haan” to “hoon” to “hain”. Ques: Is happiness, unhappiness, profit, loss, misery etc decided at the moment of birth? #SriSri: See life has both. Some things are predetermined and some things are your free will. Like when you cross the age of 21, your height ceases to increase. Only your weight can increase of decrease. Right? So putting on weight or reducing it is your free will. In the same way life is a combination of both. Some things are a result of our efforts and some things are predetermined. Ques: Why is the mind always an enemy of the Self? #SriSri: How is the mind always an enemy of the Self? Who said so? Not always. Yes it is enemy and friend both. Ques: How to come out of wrong knowledge? #SriSri: Viparyaya(wrong knowledge) is one of the modulations of the mind. The thing is it doesn’t stay too long. That’s why all the eight limbs of knowledge, any of them will trigger that point in you, that you are holding wrong knowledge. Like, you are being judgemental, and when you come out of judgement you say that ‘I have been judgemental’. Right? Time will trigger that point in you. The way to come our of Viparyaya, one is time and the other is knowledge, expanded consciousness. Then it is able to see what it is thinking is correct or not. One of the upangas is nyay darshana. Nyaya darshana says, you have a knowledge, how do you know whether your knowledge is correct or not? So they have given a whole process for it. It is the most fascinating treatise. Testing whether your means of knowing is correct or not. Is it a mind’s game or is it a reality.. You see the sun is rising and setting, but you know that the Sun is neither rising nor setting.. so it is not perceptual knowledge, you go beyond perception. (Ques: Isn’t it through science that we know whether we are in wrong knowledge?) Correct! The whole spirituality is science. This is what people said thousands of years ago.. knowledge and science both are essential. In India we never opposed the science. We always said first know the five elements, earth, water, fire, air, ether. This is science. And then the sixth element, the mind. Then intellect. So it all fits in. So nyaya is the method of knowing whether your method of knowing is correct or not. Nowhere else on the Earth they have attended to this type of keenness of awareness. The subjective and objective knowledge. One is you analyze the object. The other is you analyze who is knowing, is this person ok? Is his consciousness ok? He is not drunk? He doesn’t have jaundice? If the person has jaundice then everything appears yellow! So not just the object, even the subject is tested.. In this much detail people have gotten into. You will see an amazing science. In fact everything is science only. That’s why they never said you believe in something then you know. You just know, analyze. Ques: There are multiples lokas in this Universe? #SriSri: Scientists say that this Universe is multidimensional. It’s not Universe, it is Multiverse! Like there is not one channel. In 1960s and 70s there was just one channel. If you watch television, you can only watch Doordarshan, that’s all! Today there are hundreds of channels right? Like that this Universe has many layers and knowledge is humongous. There is no end to knowledge.(Ques: Do all layers exist in the same space?) Do you get all the channels in the same television or different televisions?! Ques: I really like the painting of the Devi in Vishalakshi Mantap. Please tell the significance of it. #SriSri: I also liked it, that’s why I said let’s put it here. It’s picture of Kashi Vishalakshi. She has her son in one hand and her father in the other. And she has a japa mala and kamandala. Kamandala signifies giving boon and japa mala signifies meditation, knowledge. Vishalakshi means one with a big vision. The one who gives this big vision is Vishalakshi. All problems can be solved through a bigger vision. With a bigger vision you will have only happiness in life. Looking at life with a big vision is asking ‘who am I?’, ‘who is God?’ Ques: Some people believe that if someone dies in Kashi he is liberated or if his ashes are offered in the River Ganges there then he is liberated. Is it true? #SriSri: No its not like that. Kashi is the Agya chakra, in the middle of the eyebrows. So when you die with your awareness in the middle of the eyebrows, then you get liberated. So Kashi is not a geographical place, but a place in our body, the agya chakra. Ida and pingla, the two nadis, where they meet, if you die with your awareness there, then you get liberated. This is what is meant. And the second thing is the city Kashi was full of knowledge. On every street, they used to have discussions on knowledge. People would sit on the bank of the river Ganges, instead of playing cards as they do now, instead of making it dirty as they do now, instead of throwing meat in the river like they do now, they used to sit and discuss knowledge. Even the parrots in the house used to repeat knowledge. So when somebody are in such company, then they get liberated for sure! You have been sitting here for the past two, three days, have you been feeling good or not? This is a different atmosphere. Everybody is doing their Sadhana, Seva, they are happy. So the place where Sadhana happens are places of knowledge. Not that people who die in other places can’t get liberated. Many people who die in Karnataka also get liberated (laughter)
