We are not promised that we will not experience disappointments - TopicsExpress

We are not promised that we will not experience disappointments and discouragements – they are a part of life. When things go wrong in life, it is a natural instinct to look inward at your own shortcomings. This will result in self-pity or the poor-me’s, which is not a constructive way to deal with life’s problems. I don’t have a simple 1, 2, 3 solution to the poor-me’s, but Psalm 103 is a great place to start. It doesn’t give you step by step instructions about how to change your self-pity behavior, but if you read carefully the secret formula will be revealed. It is all about talking to God and thanking Him for who He is and what He’s done for you. Many times we are so preoccupied with our faults that we can’t accomplish what we need to and that makes the poor-me’s even worse. A good way to break this pattern of self-pity is to acknowledge that you are stuck and unable to do all you want to do. Then you are free to turn your thoughts to God and His love. Get the focus off yourself and your problems and place the focus on God and His solutions.
