We are often asked "What is a good length to cut my lawn?" The rule of thumb we abide by is "Mow 3 to 3-1/2 inches tall. Never cut it shorter then 2 to 2-1/2 inches or remove more than one third of the leaf surface at any one mowing." Cutting a lawn too short can stress it out, and rob it of vital nutrients such as sunlight, water and fertilizer that it takes up through its blades and root system. A lawn is a plant that benefits from "pinching and pruning" so frequent mowing is better for it than infrequent mowing. Of course, during this past rainy spell, that has been easier said than done!
