We are often so busy satisfying our flesh that we dont take the time to notice how sweet Gods substance is. Just as we rebel against making healthy choices for our bodies, we also rebel against making healthy choices for our spirits. When we constantly give into the desires of our flesh despite what our bodies actually need, we are teaching our will that its okay to do that in every area of our lives. In opposite, the same is true: when we ignore what we need spiritually, we are also giving ourselves permission to ignore what we need physically. Self-control is a hard concept to practice in modern America, but the Bible tells us in Galatians that it is one of the fruits of the Spirit. This means that when we commune with the Holy Spirit and feed our spirits, demonstrating self-control will become easier and easier. Understand that self-control physically and spiritually go hand-in-hand. We create habits in one area that transfer over to the other areas in our lives. Instead of reaching for that second cupcake (or maybe even the first,) make a conscious choice to fill yourself with the sweetness of Gods Word. Over time you will find that the gloriousness of a cupcake (or a slice of pizza or a Coke) truly does pale in comparison to the deliciousness of the Bread of Life.
