We are on baby watch...it almost happened today...and then it all came to a screeching halt! My emotions are on a roller coaster! In an effort to distract myself, I will work on this WEEKLY UPDATE********* Influenza A continues to dominate but everyone is holding their own. Fevers are high 103-105 at times, dont panic..administer Tylenol (especially if tummy empty because Ibuprofen can irritate), put a cool wash rag on forehead, nape of neck and rolled wash rags in armpits and groin. Fever should come down in 30-45 min. NO SUBMERSION IN COLD WATER- way too shocking to the system and can precipitate a seizure. Nice and slow is best. Even after intervention, the fever comes down, but does not go away. That is typical with the flu. Remember to starve a fever and feed a cold. When children are running high fevers, dont feed them anything heavy- stick to liquids, clear soup, jello, watered down juice, pedialyte and popsicles. When fever breaks, start with soup and advance diet as tolerated. Digestion steals a great deal of energy from the healing process. The cough of Influenza usually starts day 3 and can last for up to 2 weeks. It is dry and tight. Rub some eucalyptus on those chests AFTER you dilute it with a carrier oil. Start with a 3 drops of eucalyptus and 10 drops of castor, coconut or olive oil. You can also put it in those diffusers you all have. They are great! Some of our flu cases are not testing positive on the screen. The screen is not 100%. I know it is frustrating but the diagnosis can be made clinically. Hang in there and come on in if you get worried. Reassurance is often 90% of my job :)
