We are on the ferry desperately trying to get home to the farm. Iceman is down now for over 12 hrs and cannot get up and Sonny has a broken pelvic bone. You can all imagine I am a bit of a wreck. Iceman and Sonny, omg. The picture below is not of Iceman but of Thomas and recently we went over his life story and explained how he was taken down by his EPSM disease when he weakened so badly in his hips that he could not get himself up again. He valiantly fought for so long but in the end he couldnt muster the strength to get up and live. Iceman is in the struggle right now. The struggle of his life. My heart is in my throat and I am anxious and my mind is spinning and I am feeling all the familiar panicking thoughts that what will the world be like without Iceman or Sonny. Sonny has a different prognosis but it is as grave an injury on his young body nonetheless. He fell on the ice, no doubt while experiencing those bursts of power and joy he has been feeling so many of. His body was depleted of the nutrients he needs to build strong bones, so his fall is far more dangerous than it would be on an otherwise healthy young horse. While I head home in this terrible state of sadness and fear please say a prayer for Icey and Sonny and me and all the rest of us doing our very best to remain hopeful and strong as we see ourselves through this day......
