We are pleased to announce The Safariland Group SAVE #1896! Officer Conan King of the La Marque Police Department, La Marque, Texas On April 25, 2014, Officer Conan King finished his shift and was in full uniform riding his motorcycle home. As he was travelling in his lane at 55 MPH, a full-sized pick-up truck pulled out in front of him causing Officer King to hit the side of the truck. The collision was severe and Life Flight was called to transport him to the hospital. Officer King broke his right arm, right femur and pelvis, sustained a perforated bowel, punctured bladder and a cracked sternum. After spending a month recovering in the hospital, Officer King was released. Once he was able to inspect his armor from the night of the crash, he discovered that his Second Chance® Monarch MR01 IIIA armor and PROTECH® IMPAC™ HT Plate had taken the brunt of the trauma from the crash. Officer King’s IMPAC HT plate had a thumb-sized indentation in the center of the chest area aligning with the crack in his sternum. This explained the lack of injury to his torso, and although there was a cut along the left side of the front panel, the outcome could have been tragic without his armor. Officer King’s armor is credited for keeping his injury to a minimum. In a letter to The Safariland Group, Officer King writes, “After reviewing the equipment, it became obvious that the vest and hard plate were the reason I am able to write this summary for you. All my injuries, with the exception of the cracked sternum, were areas not protected by the vest. I thank everyone at [The Safariland Group] for making a product that works and protects even outside the standard threats we officers face every day. Being able to see my three small children is a blessing I’ll never be able to thank you enough for.” We welcome Officer Conan King, SAVE #1896, to The Safariland Group SAVES CLUB®.
