We are pleased to announce that on Monday, Sept. 8, Tracey Horan, daughter of St. Jude Indianapolis parishioners Joe and Eileen Horan, was welcomed into the Sisters of Providence of Saint Mary-of-the-Woods (IN) as a postulant. The process of entering the postulancy begins with a ritual of entrance. Tracey knocked on the door at Providence Hall (the oldest residence hall on the campus) and was greeted by General Superior Sister Denise Wilkinson. From there, she was ushered to the parlor in Providence Hall for a prayer service, a blessing and the official welcome into the Congregation. “It’s an immersion experience into religious life with the Sisters of Providence, in broad strokes” said Director of Postulants Sister Marsha Speth. Sister Marsha will coordinate Tracey’s schedule and her ministry, as well as conduct assessments and conferences with her. She will be learning everything she can learn about the Sisters of Providence, and that includes learning about community practices, traditions and ministries. Sister Marsha also said she will meet with Tracey once a week for instructions and individual conferences. In addition, she said once a month, Tracey will work as a volunteer in the local area as well as take time volunteering with other Sisters of Providence across the country. Tracey will live within the formation community of the Sisters of Providence, located in Owens Hall. Sister Marsha said Tracey got to know the Sisters of Providence through her experience as a volunteer with White Violet Center for Eco-Justice. After a year in the postulancy, Tracey will be eligible to enter into the first year of the novitiate. It is at that point when she will receive the title of sister. Pray for Tracey as she begins her Postulancy year.
