We are sad to report that our dearest Ben has passed away peacefully, surrounded by love and his ever-adoring fans after a brief, but rapid decline over the past couple of months. He was nearly 12 years old, and after spending 10 of those years on a chain, he was brought to us by our vet, Quang, tied up in a rice bag on a motorbike. He was a bald skeleton and a confused and restless boy who did not know what it meant to be free. Since that time at the very beginning of VAWO, we have fed him as much as possible over the year and half we were blessed with him in our lives. We bathed him frequently, neutered him, and provided him with endless love, some great trips to the beach, and plenty of walks around the neighborhood to keep him happy and entertained. Above all, we made sure that he was constantly bombarded with the love and care that was lacking during the vast majority of his life and that whatever he wanted to do, he could. He was the patriarch of the herd, our dearest Uncle Ben. He was respected and adored by so many, both human and animal, and as the kind, gentle, and forgiving soul that he was, he never held a grudge against people despite the decade of cruelty imposed on him. Our Baby Ben Bear is gone and nothing will replace this void, but we go on knowing that he is one of many we have the opportunity to save and to give a life that is free from pain and cruelty. For those who were lucky enough to know him, you can understand our pain now. He will be forever missed and always remembered as the great Uncle Ben who went from skeleton to a magnificent wolf in many months of rehab and was given a life most dogs could only dream of, all thanks to the generosity of our donors and the endless sacrifice and patience of our staff and volunteers. He is now at peace and we are left to remember his kindness and gentle nature. Thanks to all who helped make his new life a possibility and for those who made is final days so peaceful and full of the love he deserved.
