We are so blessed. Kynan will hold on to these precious memories for the rest of his life. Click on the picture below to view a little movie clip of the day :) THE HISTORY BEHIND THIS EVENT; First week of school this year and Anna asked me to meet her for a discussion of an idea Ben had. Ben is head boy, a great friend of Kynans since year 1 (into their 6th year of school together). Ben had asked his Mum do you think we could ALL shave our heads to support Kynan and raise money at the same time. What a beautiful boy :) Once given the ok by us and Kynan (they were just checking to make sure not too overwhelming) Anna, Callie and Mr Gratton then met to seek the schools opinion and support. From this meeting on we had 100% support from the school community, Mr Gratton organised all of the legalities involved with raising funds then contacted us and asked us where we would like the funds to go. Kynan, chose PMH Foundation specifically Ward 3b (his second home). Mr Phillips contacted PMH and worked out all of the details, made up a newsletter (in his own time) and set about organising the day with Anna, Callie, Leanne, Karina and many other parents and teachers. They sourced donations far and wide and kids starting signing up to shave (totally or whatever their comfort level was) and set about seeking sponsorship to do so. Some of the kids from year six made a banner and on the day the sponsored shavers signed it, this banner was presented to Ky at the end of the day as a memento. Special mentions to; Mr Phillips, his beautiful wife Brenda and his daughter Cassie who paid (sponsored) Ben $200 for the privilege of actually shaving Bens head (and to Ben for letting Mr Phillips do it). Mr Phillips also raised a lot of money, and went totally bald himself. Mrs L for saying if I get $1000 in sponsorship I will shave AND SHE DID IT :) and she looks beautiful. Kynan and his family and friends all over the state and sponsored him $1200 to shave what little fuzzies he had grown back :) Anna and Paul Emery for allowing all three of their gorgeous boys to shave their heads, all the time and effort they put into the event and their support of our family since diagnosis. The awesome hairdressers who shaved 26 heads of the day. They donated their time and skills (some of them Mums from school) and did a fantastic job. Mr Gratton who as the principal lead his school beautifully, he raised funds, sat in the chair and had his head shaved in front of all of his students, supplied his own hairdresser, who then stayed and shaved Kynans head for him :) Mr Gratton was at Kynans bedside in PMH just days after diagnosis offering his prayers, support and friendship to Kynan and our family. Leanne, David Joel, Holly and Macy for the awesome banner, cutting the kids hair and being a great mates to Kynan since year one. Jo, Dan Josh, Liv, and Jac, Jac shaved on year 9 camp and contributed to raising ($1800) for that event, Josh, Liv and Jo supported Ky by shaving, going purple and helping out on the day. You guys have been awesome friends to our family since year 1 also. Callie, Michael, Rory and Paddy, for shaving and giving of your time to organise the fundraiser. Friends and team mates since year one too! Cindy and Kim for taking empty tins and putting them at your businesses in town to accept donations for the event. Also to the gorgeous Kylan for shaving and the awesome Liam for pulling off the purple hair look so handsomely. Also friends since year 1. I dont normally like singling people out because I always worry I will miss something or someone, if I have I apologise profusely it is not intentional. Thank you to the administration staff who made a fundraising page online which then allowed most of Joels family overseas to donate very generously. Also to everyone who donated on the online site :) Thanks to all of the students and their families for coming together on one day, creating a sea of purple and showing such tremendous support to Kynan, our family and all the sick kids of WA who rely on PMH for treatment. We had 23 kids, 2 teachers and one Principal shave their heads on the day :) AWESOME effort. Raised $10,000 for PMH Foundation (possibly in excess of this figure) AND most importantly showed a brave boy currently fighting a difficult battle that he is not alone, the beauty of humanity and community support. Thank you for teaching our son first hand what real human nature is. Love The Piercy family xxx
