We are so excited to tell you the great news...today we signed a lease with our friends at Michigan Sugar Company to transform a vacant 26-acre property on Bay Citys Middlegrounds Island into Michigan Sugar Trails, a new urban nature preserve that will ultimately incorporate a high-qulity singletrack mountain bike trail right here in the center of Bay City! Pictured here (left-to-right) Brad Alvesteffer, Manager of Rays Bike Shop-Bay City, Zak Branigan, SBLC Executive Director, Mark Flegenheimer, president and CEO of Michigan Sugar Company, and Ray VanDriesse, Director of Community and Government relations for Michigan Sugar Company. Once complete, this will be the first natural surface singletrack trail open to the public in our community for mountain bikes! Thanks to IMBA Great Lakes, ITC Holdings, and the members of the new local International Mountain Bicycling Association chapter-in-development, Heartland of Michigan Riders in Partnership. Without a strong coalition, the Conservancy cant do projects like this! We look forward to sharing the details about this project and involving the community every step of the way. LIKE this post and SHARE it with your friends to start spreading the word about the Saginaw Basin Land Conservancys latest Outdoor Urban Recreation project!
