We are so pleased to have US Senator Kelly Ayotte visit us on April 4! She serves on the following committees: Committee Assignments Armed Services - Serving on the prestigious Senate Armed Services Committee, Kelly is working to make certain that our military is well-prepared for the challenges we face in a dangerous world. In her capacity as the Ranking Republican on the Subcommittee on Readiness and Management Support, she is in a strong position to highlight the value of military facilities and programs that are important to New Hampshire and the nation - including the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard and the Pease Air National Guard base. She also serves on the Seapower and Personnel Subcommittees. Budget - The Senate Budget Committee is primarily responsible for drafting Congress annual budget plan for the federal government, and it has jurisdiction over the operations of the Congressional Budget Office. As a Budget Committee member, Kelly is in a prime position to push for spending cuts and budget reforms to put our country on a fiscally responsible path. Commerce - The Senate Commerce Committees jurisdiction includes interstate commerce, communications, science and technology, consumer affairs, aviation, the U.S. Coast Guard, and oceans and fisheries. As a member of the Committee, Kellys top priority is to ensure that burdensome federal regulations dont stifle private sector innovation. She serves on the following subcommittees: Communications, Technology and the Internet; Competitiveness, Innovation, and Export Promotion; Oceans, Atmosphere, Fisheries and Coast Guard; Science and Space; and Surface Transportation and Merchant Marine Infrastructure, Safety, and Security. Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs - The Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee oversees the Department of Homeland Security and is the Senates chief oversight committee. Kelly will focus on the critical challenges our nation continues to face to protect the homeland. In addition, she will also use her position on the oversight committee to examine ways to reduce waste, fraud, and abuse in federal government programs. Special Committee on Aging - On the Senate Special Committee on Aging, Kelly is in a strong position to fight for the interests of New Hampshire seniors.
