We are sure everyone is watching the weather reports. We dont have a magical way of knowing the weather, we are following same reports as you. It is predicted to get very cold and snow accumulations in the next few days. Be prepared and be sure to check on your elderly family members. Be sure they have their medication and plenty of food. A reminder, a level 1, simply means blowing and drifting snow. No travel restrictions, just drive carefully. A level 2 means some roads are becoming impassable. You should not drive unless necessary. A level 3 closes roads. Most roads are impassable. We park cruisers during a level 3 because we cannot get through the roads. We will respond to emergencies during a level 3. EMPLOYERS DECIDE IF YOU NEED TO REPORT TO WORK. IF YOU ARE A NECESSARY EMPLOYEE, YOUR EMPLOYER MAY REQUIRE YOU TO WORK. You will NOT be arrested or cited if your employer requires you to work, although we may check with your employer to determine if you were required to go in. The Sheriffs Office snow levels apply to State Routes, County and Township Roads only. They do not apply in municipalities, the Mayors make that call as road conditions can be very different in town....usually better. Please be aware, if Mercer County is on a level 3, the roads are extremely bad. Snow plows will lead us, EMS & Fire Personnel in an emergency. For up to date levels, go to the sheriffs office website at mercercountysheriff.org and sign up for Nixle. It is a free service & you will receive text alerts about snow levels.
