We are the young people in the streets, who shout out and die-in - TopicsExpress

We are the young people in the streets, who shout out and die-in for the right to be treated equally and to live freely. We are people who must know that the voice and the vote are mutual amplifiers, not mutually exclusive, writes Charles M. Blow NYT Op-Ed columnist, inspired by a recent visit to Union Theological Seminary. Blow argues that disruptive protests should be complemented by conventional political interventions, including voting and advocating specific legislative and policy recommendations to our elected officials. He asks a fundamental question for all of us: Who are we? We are America — impossibly strong, illogically optimistic, eternally hopeful. This is a laboratory in which one of the greatest experiments in human history is still underway. We can be whoever we want to be, dare to be, dream of being. It seems like some radical seminarians gave Blow some hope that we can achieve democracy, through a growing youth-led de-centralized movement for justice, calling for the direct democracy that is the ideal of our republic. Lets dare to dream again and make our dreams a reality!
