We are thinking at MORE2 about all things spring, after yet - TopicsExpress

We are thinking at MORE2 about all things spring, after yet another evening of snow and then awakening to a beautiful, sunny day. Not unlike our work, we know that there can be a season of dormancy before everything begins to BLOOM. Yes, we are thinking of gardens, spring flowers, our college basketball brackets and Major League Baseballs Opening Day. We also are thinking of what may bloom before the end of this Missouri State legislative season, particularly whether we will see the passage of important legislation related to public education and criminal justice. We are hopeful that we may see the passage of Comprehensive Immigration Reform with a clear pathway to citizenship. And, we are embarking upon what we project to be the best fundraising season in our organizations history as people like you share what they are able to give (time, money and talent) in anticipation of our June 12th Annual Banquet, Imagine: Unleashing the Power of We! How do we make everything bloom? We sow seeds of change. We cultivate relationships. We toil in the fields of injustice. And, we eventually see the fruits of our collective labor. Whats on deck for us in these efforts? Monday, March 24th, 6-630PM at Mill Creek Park (Plaza, KCMO): Fast for Families Prayer and Press Kick-off Event Tuesday, March 25th, 9AM- March 26th, 9AM- Fast with us as we HUNGER for Comprehensive Immigration Reform with a Pathway to Citizenship- just email me back if you wish to join our fast! Tuesday, April 1st, all day: Dont Be Fooled: Ban the Ban Call your Missouri State Representative and Senator and URGE him/ her to get a floor vote on SB680 and/ or HB1589 which would eliminate the lifetime ban on food stamp eligibility for Missourians with drug related felony convictions. We support this because feeding hungry people helps starve addictions. Will Missouri Institute Early Voting? From now until April, we will continue to collect Early Voting Petitions in Missouri. If we are successful, Missourians will be able to vote over the course of 6 weeks rather than on a single day. At my church this morning, a friend said, We dont need that. People should just get up early and go vote like I do. Then I told her about my mom, who, when I was a kid often traveled two hours round trip to work in Kansas City, usually 6-7 days a week at one or two low wage jobs. Every single time there was an election, she had to plan for lost hourly wages so she could vote. People all over Missouri choose to sacrifice just to participate in democracy, even when we can simply change laws to make it easier. With a new understanding today, my fellow congregate signed our petition. If you have an upcoming opportunity to help collect signatures, please contact me right away. Our deadline is fast approaching.
