We are very sad to tell you that this week we discovered that - TopicsExpress

We are very sad to tell you that this week we discovered that someone who was a supporter of the Trust adopted one of our dogs in the summer had her pts only 4 weeks later because she did not get on with her other dogs. This was confirmed by the vet report we received on Tuesday. The vet discussed behavioural work, but the woman chose pts. She never told us she had a problem, in fact she sent pictures and messages telling us how well the dog was doing. At any point, she could have phoned for advice or brought the dog back. She was a sweet, loving little dog, aged about 7, who showed no significant behavioural problems during the 3 months she was with us. Of course the stress of moving to a home environment can sometimes bring out unexpected problems, which is why we make sure all our adoptive homes are aware that we offer full rescue back up and we give a lot of guidance on how to help the dog settle in, which this woman ignored. If the woman couldn’t cope, this dog should have come straight back to us, where she would have been safe and loved until we could find her a more suitable home. Without informing us, this woman took on 2 dogs in the same week from different rescues, which is contrary to the guidelines of any respectable rescue because of the stress for each dog of adapting to a new home. We only discovered this when she described our dog on facebook as a ‘BOGOF’. We cannot express how we sorry we are that we ever let this woman have one of our precious Trust dogs. We care deeply about every single dog that comes to the Trust and we do everything we can to give them the best possible new life. We promised the dog a happy home, and 4 weeks later she was dead, and we have to live with that. We would like to thank all the people who give safe, loving homes to our dogs. You are very, very much appreciated. Please remember, we are always on the phone if you need us. Barbara, Kate & all the team
