We are where we were on Dec 23: PDP Our MLAs brief us what people tell them: Akhtar Rahiba R Parveen Srinagar, Jan 01: Deadlock over government formation in the state continues with Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) yet to arrive at any decision. PDP Chief Spokesman Naeem Akhtar said the party, which was declared as the single largest party, is stuck as far as developments on formation of government are concerned. “We are right there where we were on December 23,” Akhtar told Rising Kashmir. The Election Commission of India announced the results of the Assembly elections on December 23. While PDP secured 28 seats, Bharatiya Janata Party stood second with 25 seats. National Conference managed 15 seats while Congress took 12 seats. The rest seven seats were claimed by small parties and independents. All kinds of alliance possibilities have been reported so far but none of the two – BJP and PDP- have reached a consensus. Akhtar said the communication between the two parties is only through informal channels while no formal discussion has come up with the BJP. “There is no formal engagement yet… our positions are stated. Communication happens through channels,” he said. However, he said the party was still ready to consider other options including Congress. He said the PDP MLAs who were recently called to give feedback to the party high command have also not been briefed unless there was something concrete that the party would vouch for. “Unless we see way to a stable government, we will not pursue it. Right now, it is our MLAs who are briefing us on what the people tell them,” he added A day before Mehbooba told the reporters that her party priority is not to cobble up a majority for the sake of government formation. Replying to a query about the coalition, she said: “It is not about BJP, NC or Congress but respect for PDP’s agenda for reconciliation. Referring to Modi’s “dream” of development and addressing the problem of unemployment, the PDP chief had said there cannot be “development till there is peace on the ground”. In this regard, she invoked former Prime Minister A B Vajpayee and said “It is not possible till Vajpayeeji’s political process is taken forward.”
