We arent newcomers to the work of community cat care. In fact, we formed a corporation in 1999. And ever since, we have been working to save cats lives. We began by researching and learning all that we could, and learning what programs were already operating. We respectfully sat down with as many agencies as would give us meeting time, and listened to them and told them what we can offer. It was discouraging when animal control ignored our efforts, and continued to catch and kill cats. We realized, though, that our program caretakers were committed, caring people. And our caretakers wanted very much to have access to spay/neuter veterinary help and other cat care assistance. We fund our Community Cats Program through donations from the kind people of Prince Georges County, surrounding areas, and through occasional grant awards. Weve also litigated on behalf of community cats and caretakers. We believe that caretakers have rights. ONLY when respectful discussion has failed, is going to court necessary. But, when animal control repeatedly tells people untruths, we do not see what other option there exists to protect animals and to protect good citizens stepping in where no help exists. When the lies stop, there wont be any more need for litigating, and we will be very happy!
