We arrived back in Bogota Wednesday night. Today we were able to visit Caracoli and Soacha. These are two areas of great poverty. People from Colombia that have been displaced due to violence are sent to these locations. It is an area of great insecurity but we were able to experience it as a place of great hope. We visited two IELCO ministries. The first in Caracoli. This site had many ministries primarily for young women and single mothers. There are classes to teach how to make handcrafts and other skills that can be a source of making money. There is also a great emphasis with the teenage girls to educate them and prevent teen pregnancies. In Soacha, the IELCO ministry was a senior center. These people have had to leave their homes and everything behind. Many times they had lost family members because of the violence but the joy and hospitality they shared with us was phenomenal. When we left they all gave us hugs, and not the polite hugs with the kiss on the cheek, but true embraces that brought you to tears. What tremendous ministries that IELCO is a part of, reaching out to those that are the most forgotten in this society. Friday we head to Monserrate and another IELCO school, San Lucas, and Saturday we fly back to SC. Prayers for safe travel would be much appreciated. Please also keep Pastor Mark Cerniglia in your prayers, he slipped today and fractured his leg just above the ankle. He is doing well and our IELCO family here is taking great care of him, but please keep him in your prayers. (Please forgive any typos - post is written from my iPhone)
