We as ART specialist are constantly striving to improve our on going success and pregnancy rates,which is an uphill task. The cause of nearly 50% of infertility cases can be attributed to the male and semen analysis remains the gold standard for evaluating the fertility potential of the male. A basic semen analysis is often not enough, one can miss out on important functional capability of the sperm .Thus in most cases the new more advanced stringent tests are required. These include assessing the levels of ROS and the integrity of sperm DNA. Infertility treatment has been revolutionized with the advent of Assisted Reproductive Technologies especially ICSI. The most difficult part with ICSI is selecting the right sperm especially when the majority of sperms are of a compromised quality ! Can the human eye have the same ability to select the sperm like the cummulus cells and the zona ? Therefore new methods of selecting sperms have been developed which are based on the natural selection principles. This workshop will introduce the participants to the new techniques of semen analysis and sperm selection and demonstrate how these can be integrated into routine embryological practices of ART.
