We as coaches, athletes and parents all sometimes forget - TopicsExpress

We as coaches, athletes and parents all sometimes forget something.... In the sport of tennis ( I am sure it applies to other sports as well) we try so hard to be better, be more efficient, be more successful, win more, train harder and look for that extra .1 percent. The reality actually is that yes, we all know that without practice and leaving it all on the court one cannot get better, at anything, the truth is we need to have a wow factor within ourselves most of the time. Unfortunately or fortunately, anything really excellent takes lots of effort and sacrifice, no matter which angle one looks at it. But one factor that is overlooked over and over is the humbleness and awe we need to embrace in our accomplishments, no matter how small it is on this journey. I suppose we can call it stop and smell the roses sometimes but even the best players in the world have a certain aspect of I cannot believe I did that! The sense of wonderment in achieving something never leaves their psyche! It keeps us grounded and humbled so we can achieve higher with a warm heart and open mindedness.... We should be very careful that we not focus on the end result all the time and then lose that sense of wow, that sense of quiet disbelief of we made it.....I think we will go much farther in anything we do if we focus more on the journey, to enjoy it, yes it is hard with many bumps and disappointments, but if your heart is in the right place, the disappointments tend to be very short lived, but also are necessary markers perhaps...like road signs....enjoy the day!!
