We asked you for your positive and negative experiences with #lupus. Here is one submitted by E. L. Can you relate? On September 1, 2013 I said goodbye to my child. I have a very aggressive form of lupus and my child paid the price. It had been over a year since my last flare up so my husband and I were given the okay to try for a baby. It seemed from the very first positive pregnancy test that my lupus was on high and was taking me and my baby down with it. I was ten weeks, almost eleven, when I woke up in the worst pain I have ever felt. The pain was worse than labor, and I knew there would be only one outcome... I would lose my child, my son. I firmly believed my baby was a boy. My doctor told me This happens, its normal. One in four pregnancies ends in loss. We may never know why I miscarried. It wasnt until three weeks later that I received a phone call stating that at some point a clot had formed in the placenta. My doctor felt strongly that my lupus was aggressive to my pregnancy and the clot was formed as a result of my lupus clotting disorder. In that horrible pain and agony my husband and I experienced, no one could have told me would we would find happiness at the end. The best thing lupus has done for me was turn that horrible experience into an open door. After going through that loss, my doctors, husband, and I were able to come up with a safe way for me to have the child we wanted so badly. The miscarriage that lupus forced me to endure allowed my husband and I to grow closer, and we are now expecting a son in October! Our relationship is stronger and better now because we were able to endure the pain together and grow together. Although I wish I had never had such a negative experience with lupus, I feel blessed with the positive experience I have gained. My current pregnancy and my relationship with my husband are as strong and healthy as ever.
