We at Phoenix Gym are proud of all our members who managed to achieve their fitness goals, and in this case exceeding it! We thank Gary for sharing his success story with all of us, reminding all of us that when your mind believe, you will achieve!!! Congratulations Gary, we are so proud of you!!! Gary Nyantong August 27 years old I joined Phoenix Gym in April 2014. Never did any workout before, just Futsal every other week as the goalkeeper. Phoenix Gym was the first gym I’ve even been to and Ive never looked back since. As a student, some of my classes were held on the 5th floor and one class in particular was held at 7th floor in my university so I was forced to take the stairs because the lift was often very crowded and I would be late for classes. Ive always found myself out of breath after the second floor. By the fifth floor, I was breathing heavily as though I just completed the New York Marathon. That was the moment when I realized how out of shape I was. I was very apprehensive about joining a gym at first because I’m a very shy person but I took the giant leap and started my journey into being fit. The first few weeks I felt totally lost at the gym. I started out slow and only did cardio. 30 minutes on the bike and 45 minute slow walk on the treadmill just to get my fitness level up. I also started joining classes such as Body Combat, Body Pump and HIIT classes. I went to the gym about 3 to 5 times a week. I started my weight training in May 2014. The variety of weight machines available at Phoenix Gym helped me a lot as a total gym noob as using free weights seemed very intimidating at first. I also altered my diet significantly to achieve my target bodyweight. My initial target was to lose about 10kg before the end of 2014. Today, I have lost a total of 31kg! I went from a size 42 waist on Christmas 2013 and happy to say that last Christmas I am wearing a size 34. I feel healthier, more energetic and definitely feel much better about myself as I progress. I feel more confident about my body and going to the beach is not such a horror show for me as it was before. My advice for anyone who wanted to get fit is just to work hard and the result will come. Find that one thing that will motivate you to keep going and never give up!
