We bought our first TV today, a smaller Samsung on existing stock - TopicsExpress

We bought our first TV today, a smaller Samsung on existing stock left over from a Black Friday sale. When I got it home and plugged in I found the image harsh and unnatural, just like you see in the store, and I know some people like that hyper-real aesthetic, but I dont. The cool part is in being an imaging professional, and after diving in to the menu, looking online for people that have run calibration, and knowing what to look for Ive got an amazing looking image. I think the biggest difference is in turning off all of the post processing. When the studio masters the final version, they are the ones that make the decision on how sharp the image looks, how punchy the colors are, how warm or cool it is. The thing is, the TV we purchased tweaked all of that, particularly pushing the sharpening really hard, and using a dynamic contrast shift that was blowing out highlights. Turn all that off and things start looking a lot better!
