In all honesty its more comparable to a contract(although we will never use that term because it is too formal and cold). Youre making a deal. You are giving all of yourself to God, ALL of you in exchange for Him and His salvation. A lot of Christians dont understand the gravity of this, in fact, the Christians I know who most understand the gravity of their salvation are usually former atheists, agnostics, or from religions completely different from Christianity, because they havent been fed the lukewarm garbage of the Western Church.
