We can comfortably maintain about 150 stable relationships at any one time. These are relationships where we keep persistent social contact - we know who they are, how we relate to them, how they relate to others, what they do and so on. We dont have 983 friends, as Facebook would suggest. A true friend is someone whose phone call you would pick up at 3 oclock in the morning if they dialled, and, they would pick up your call at 3am as well. Relationships can start online, but they truly develop when we socialize. Not by Liking someones Facebook status or Instagram post. We form relationships when we speak and socialize with others.
