We can win it all – Ferdinand 05 September By John Edwards London – Rio Ferdinand has made light of Manchester United’s transfer woes and backed boss David Moyes to lead them to an unprecedented clean sweep of honours at home and abroad. Moyes and chief executive Ed Woodward have been criticised over a series of failed bids that left them with Everton midfielder Marouane Fellaini as their only signing of note. While many fear United’s failings may have undermined their prospects of a successful title defence, Ferdinand insisted that they were still equipped to take on all-comers this season. “We have a strong enough squad to win everything,” he declared in an interview in the London Evening Standard. “We won the league at a canter last season, and we have not become a bad team overnight. “There have been a lot of changes in personnel and managers at the top, and that will make it more interesting. “Change is no bad thing. Sir Alex Ferguson used to say no one person is bigger than Manchester United. But we still have a burning ambition to win things. There are four trophies, and I want all of them. We want to win everything.” The defender, 34, admitted there were anxieties over his future when Ferguson’s reign ended and Moyes moved in to launch a new era. “It is natural to worry about things and wonder, ‘Will the new manager like me or play me?’,” he said. “But everyone had that. We started with a clean slate and had the chance to impress him from the beginning of the season.” Fellaini, meanwhile, revealed the move to Old Trafford was impossible to turn down. “It is true I sacrificed some money (on my Everton contract) but that didn’t matter,” he said. “All that counted was getting the deal done and realising my dream. “David Moyes knows what I can do and he made it clear he wanted me in his team.” For Alexander Buttner, though, Moyes’s arrival at United hasn’t been a blessing. Buttner was due to be loaned to Besiktas but has been named in United’s Champions League squad. His agent Alexander Bursac said: “Alex is not necessarily looking for a guarantee of playing time but he does not want to spend the season on the bench. “Under Sir Alex Ferguson, Buttner was the up and coming man. He started playing in more games and was trusted in training. That sense of trust is not there now.” – Daily Mail
