We cant call it `beastly to defame beasts. What happened in Peshawar will easily put the deadliest of all cannibals to shame. Its a story so cold that no word can hold the meaning powerful enough to describe it. So – for a change – we retain all expressions that depict dread. Was it a surprise or a (predictable) culmination of what has been happening since past few decades in the Muslim world in general and in Pakistan in particular. The chickens – as goes the cliche – are coming home to roost. What was fed as ideology to a huge mass of humans is now raring its head as a monster and swallowing its own nourishers. Those who kill innocents and blow themselves up are not to be seen as criminals, but conversely the victims of the same intoxication which was pumped into their veins in the name of jihad. They are doing what they were told to do in the name of Allah. They want to be martyrs who disappear in this world only to reappear in the next as blessed. Every verse of the scripture and every couplet of a revolutionary poet is showing its effect in Pakistan.
