We continue our play review of History Maker Baseball. We are in the NL 1969 Championship Series between the Reds and the Mets. The Series is a best of 5 format, scheduled 2-2-1, with the first 2 games at Shea Stadium. In the first game the Reds jumped out to an early 1-0 lead on a HR by Pete Rose in the first inning against Seaver. Cloinger starting for the Reds gave up 3 runs, 2 on HRs to Clendon and Shamsky. The Mets scored 3 more in the 2nd as Agee hit a 2 run HR. The Reds closed within 6-3 when in the 5th the Mets ran up another 5 runs enroute to as 12-2 win. The Reds used 5 pitchers total and Seaver threw a complete game. In the second game Maloney threw a decent game, giving up 2 runs early and settling down until yanked in the 6th with the Mets threatening. Koosmen. Kooz gave up a HR to Maloney in the 5th but the Mets scored 1 in the 7th off another Agee HR and despite a scare in the 9th, requiring McGraw to come on in relief of DiLauro, the Mets won 3-2. The Mets are up 2-0, only needing 1 of 3 remaining games. My only qualm so far - and Weis wasnt a 1 in SOM either but perhaps in HMB, he should have a Gold rating to ensure he gets the proper playing time.
