We continue to track our next weather maker that will bring the potential for widespread strong to severe storms. The latest guidance suggests this threat will begin in NW AL around sunset and continue into the overnight hours as it tracks east. Due to the linear nature, damaging wind gusts in excess of 60mph will be the primary threat. Hail and brief tornadoes also look possible with this set up. The flooding potential will also need to be monitored with recent rainfall and if this line slows down and spreads out as the night wears on. We will continue to provide frequent updates as we narrow down the timing and adjust the threats. Make some time this weekend to review your severe weather safety plan and make sure your NOAA weather radio is functioning properly. [Press the large center button and you should hear the local forecast. Press it again to mute it until a watch or warning is issued.] Share with your friends and check back for frequent updates. Until then, look for scattered thunderstorm chances - about 50% tonight and Sunday. As with any summer-like storms, some could briefly become strong with heavy downpours, frequent lightning, small hail, and wind gusts up to 40mph.
