We cooperated with Qvest again. Following is an excerpt of an interesting article concerning photographer Todd Hido. TODD HIDO’S unmistakeable CREDO. His photographs create identity in a way only seldom achieved with this medium Lovers Lane Northwest. A woman lounges on the grey leather upholstery of a car’s back seat. Her dark brown, wavy hair shifts with her lascivious movements. Her red lipstick goes well with her top and with her green eyes which are emphasised by dark eyeliner. She has prettied herself up very nicely – this unknown female who may be much younger than the impression she creates. Then, very suddenly: an accident. The car is wrecked. The bumper is twisted, the bonnet is dented, the windscreen starred and cracked in all directions from a point that might be a bullet hole. Situations and memories pass in review like a series of images. The last of these was black and white, in the style of a police photo. If it really was such a photo, then the accompanying file would need to be labelled “Todd Hido”. The scene of the crime: Kent, Ohio. Because that’s where the American photographer, whose photos tell stories suspended between fiction and reality, has travelled to create his latest series “Excerpts From Silver Meadows”. More in the new Qvest 58 issue.
