We could list Florida-only related police shootings regularly, but suffice it to say that it is a problem. Many police-involved-shootings are situations where the officer was indeed justified in the shooting, but that we are so fundamentally no longer able to trust the police when they describe facts makes each and every incident quite suspect. We provide the police with weaponry, power, authority, and the color of law. It is essential that we have rules, training, transparency and police accountability. There are many fundamental flaws in our criminal justice system that systemic changes must occur at every level if we want police involved shootings to abate. (-g)
