We dedicate this Reminder of Hope to Joni Eareckson Tada and her husband Ken. ......................................... He even makes the deaf hear and the mute speak. .......................Mark 7:37 For those who have a physical handicap or others fighting a tortuous and maybe life threatening disease this Scripture is more than a Reminder - its hope. Some may feel its a false hope but God who is the full embodiment of hope is incapable of being false. So is it possible for disabilities and illness to disappear by the power of God? Yes. Will it happen? Only God knows. What we need to realize and try very hard to understand is that when disabilities and disease do exist and never end it never stops the blessings and healings of God. Case in point, is the well-known Joni Eareckson Tada who has been quadriplegic for 47 of her 65 years. It was a tragic swimming accident that broke her neck at the young age of 18 and left her in a wheelchair and great pain for the rest of her life becoming totally dependent on others to clothe her, feed her, clean and groom her and meet all her physical needs. Joni soon fell into a dark period of great depression and wanted to end her life but she had a day when she prayed to God, If you wont let me die then please, show me how to live. And boy, did He ever. Joni has lived a fuller life than most. She has become a well-known artist, written over 40 books, recorded several musical albums, has her own radio show which received Radio Program of the Year Award, has articles published in magazines and newspapers around the world, is a much sought after public speaker, founded Joni & Friends Organization for the Disabled that is changing lives from one end of the planet to the other, been in the company of presidents and dignitaries, and has had a loving husband, Ken, standing by her side for the last 31 years. So looking at todays Reminder and wondering if God really does make the deaf hear and the mute speak and questioning if He really can remove any pain and disease, we would have to answer, He most certainly does, when we ask Him. It may not be that we hear, speak or live a pain and disease free life as we imagined we should, but God will have us hearing, speaking and living in greater ways than what we could have ever imagined! ..................................................................................
