We did it! We signed the Book of Condolences for ourselves, for a disabled neighbor and very good friend, and for my mother-in-law who cant get out to do it where she is located. Met hundreds of wonderful people. Bubby was the hit of everyones day. From City Hall we walked to the National War Memorial and, along with a lovely young family from Quebec, we laid long-stemmed yellow roses amid all of the thousands of floral, card, candle, photo, poppies, notes, etc. Someone was kind enough to send Cpl. Cirillo off with a can of beer to comfort him on his way. We met tons of people, soldiers, undercover RCMP officers, tourists from all over the world, and so very many young children. An entire hockey team all came over to meet Bubbles as she sat on the concrete siding beside me with her gigantic paws dangling over the side. They had just lost their game against Ottawa, but they all said that they had played their best when I asked them, so I said Well, if you did your best, then its all good, and youll win the next one. They smiled, but the one in front of me had his head down and he very quietly added - Im the goalie - so pathetically. Then he looked up at me and I said: Hey, Im an old Patrick Roy fan from way back! He smiled and we shook on it. So there. The coach smiled too. We stayed there for hours meeting so very many both sad and calm folks of all ages, all wanting to meet my beautiful big dog. People were there with their pet dogs, but everyone behaved and it all worked out for the best. Bubby was on constant surveillance despite all of the attention on her. Hundreds took her photo! All respected her job and how we take care of each other. It was a wonderful experience and after meeting Bubby, everyone left with a smile on their face, so she really brought comfort and joy to those whose visit to the memorial was initially very serious and heart-wrenching. Bubby became their therapy dog and got them all back to some semblance of normalcy before they left. She is really my miracle dog in oh so many ways. We visited Parliament but didnt know it was closed. Chatted with the female RCMP officer at the main door and another undercover officer who fell in instant love with my Bubby. Then to Carlingwood and I bought my Gray Mountain by John Grisham, picked up a bottle of 100 - 222s for my migraine (as I had run totally out of them - not good), a box of lovely animal Xmas cards, and I also picked up my 2015 (16-month) Newfoundland Dog Calendar. A&W for Grandpa Burger Combo with fries, onion rings, root beer and a ton of water for Bubby. Then to Tim Hortons for Timbits and my French Vanilla Capuccino - and tons more marvelous people. She just wins everyones heart wherever we go! .................and then home! It has been an extremely long day, yet a wonderful and uplifting experience to interact with so very many different and cordial people and to lighten up their load, simply by being in the constant company of my adorable and magnificent Newfoundland Service Dog girl, BUBBLES. Thanks to everyone who chatted with us, and you are welcome to anyone whose day we may in some way, have brightened.
