Sander Levin, D-Royal Oak, also joined the call and asked Obamacare opponents to stop playing politics and work together to educate people on the assistance available. He specifically called out his colleague, Rep. Fred Upton, R-St. Joseph, for sending detailed letters to advocacy groups, dubbed “Navigators,” who received federal grants to help citizens navigate the new health care law and sign up people for benefits. Levin said the purpose of the Upton’s request letters is “to really make it more difficult for the navigators to do this work” and “to make outreach more difficult, not less difficult. It’s part of an effort of Republicans to one way or another to try to repeal health care reform instead of pitching in to make it work as we did with the prescription (drug benefit) bill even if we voted against it.”
