We do not have to act on every emotion we have. When we are - TopicsExpress

We do not have to act on every emotion we have. When we are emotional the one thing we need to do is take the time to get clear. Clarity takes quiet but we get so uncomfortable in our emotions that we feel we cannot survive unless we do something about them. Emotions can be very uncomfortable to sit with but we cannot understand them if we do not spend the time holding them and having some self-control. When we are reacting immediately, we are not thinking of the bigger picture. We are only thinking of how we feel, of how something is affecting us and how we think things should be different. In reacting we have no time to even think about the perception of the other person. When we get quiet and we take some time to think, we find that we stop doing and saying things we regret (which increases our self-respect and self-love) and we are not left cleaning up irreparable damages by looking and acting crazy. It takes a lot of maturity and self-restraint to hold onto an emotion but you are actually saving yourself from more drama and dysfunction. In taking time to marinate you may find that you were sweating the small stuff and nothing needs to be communicated or you may find the correct words to use to communicate your feelings. Nothing is an emergency and most situations, if left alone, resolve themselves. It is hard to love yourself when you feel reactive and crazy, so love yourself enough to learn self-control.
