We do not want a world that has slipped backward into yet more - TopicsExpress

We do not want a world that has slipped backward into yet more extreme poverty, famine, plague, upheaval. We do not want to go back into that place where the misery of some is so breathtaking as to defy survival--and that is because, amongst other things, we are now and will remain, inexorably linked to that misery. If one part of the world lacks the resources to contain a plague, soon enough it will infect the whole world; if one part of the world collapses into failed states, soon enough their war will become our war, and that on our home territory. We are not isolated and have no insulation from distant kingdoms--we are one kingdom, one people in a very real way and there is no escaping the shared effects of global warming, no way to build a wall that keeps our air clean, our water fresh, our temperatures and biospheres pristine. A melting icecap lifts all boats in ways no trickle down economics ever imagined.
