We dont normally share posts about dog on dog attacks but we had a post on the wall yesterday that we felt we did have to share as it seems there have been similar incidents in the same area with the same dog and it looks like the police are involved. Can anyone confirm this please? Wed really like to highlight the fact that if your dog is attacked you can and should report the incident to the Animal Welfare team on 01273 292929. They may be able to build a court case against the owner. Wed welcome more info about this and how easy/difficult it is to prosecute dog owners, if anyone has any experience? Our local AW team will be at “Talk Dog,” a new event organised by Brighton & Hove City Council, tomorrow, from 10am to 3pm at Patcham Community Centre, Ladies Mile Road, Brighton. It would be a great idea if you have concerns about a particular dog/owner to visit this event and ask them direct as we are not entirely sure in these matters. In the meantime, this was reported to us so make sure you take care: Anyone who is walking their dog, or indeed walking on their own, pls watch out for a grey staffie in Withdean Park. You may see the dog before the owner who is a young chap. In fact you may hear your dog yelping in the first instance. My beautiful trusting working cocker, Gus, was attacked this evening by this dog who hung on to Gus lip and left a big hole. To be honest the blood was worse than the actual wound. But very distressing for Gus who is always a cheery chappy, likes to trot up to other dogs and is quite submissive as hes only a year old. This thing came like a bolt out of the blue. Thankfully several other owners came over, some supporting me and some trying to speak to the staffie owner who, quite frankly, didnt have a care in the world. Apparently this dog has done this before, according to the other owners. If you were one of these helpful owners, a HUGE HUGE thank you once again for being so calm and supportive! I patched Gus up and we left the park. On the way out I warned another chap who was walking and he, too, knew who I was talking about and said that an older lady had been bitten on the arm by this dog. What can be done? I really dont want any other dog to be attacked and I certainly dont want Gus ending up being timid around other dogs. Please be careful.
