We draft Zach Mettenberger in the sixth round at Quarterback. Maybe the one who will take over as our starter in the future? Who knows at this point as I realize some believer that Locker is not the answer and some still think Locker deserves more of a chance. Whatever the case may be you wouldnt expect a quarterback drafted in the sixth round to be much of impact player as there are only so many Tom Bradys in the world. Anyhow Mettenberger has decent arm strength and adequate accuracy. A fairly good and quick release who can scan the field if given time. Not afraid to throw down-field with the ball as that has been an issue with the passing game lately. He has decent ability to read defenses and call audibles at the line of scrimmage but will need lot of work in that area before he should be the full time starter if he is to ever become a starting quarterback. He will not do will under pressure at this point and will struggle if he is forced to improvise. He does not possess good ability to move around in the pocket and will need to either have good protection or play in a system that will allow him to get ball off quickly. He strikes me as a West Coast system of a quarterback in the NFL level. He will probably need a good running game to help him as he does not seem to be the type of quarterback who can throw the ball around all game long like Peyton Manning or Tom Brady. While it wouldnt be fair to compare any rookie quarterback to a Manning or Brady, point is that he seems to more of a game manager than a guy who will win the game for you. Overall, Mettenberger has potential but he will probably need talent around him to be an effective QB. But there are some who believe when given the chance, he can be the type of QB who will make the offense around him better and not the other way around as there were people who thought he had second round talent. Time will tell but great quarterbacks are the ones who elevate the talent of players theyre surrounded with.
