We finally got around to seeing Frozen last night. Id seen the clip of Let It Go online, but its even more effective in context. The lyrics are something anyone going thru puberty, coming to grips with their queerness, and/or concealing their mutant powers can relate to. Definitely one of the best superhero movies of the past few years. :) I havent seen many of the recent Disney princess movies, but this one seems a great step forward in terms of the examples it sets, and the traditional clichés it punctures: the magicalness of Love At First Sight (revealed as a manipulative fantasy), being kissed by a boy as the Act of True Love (instead of her rescue coming from within herself), and the dependence of Happily Ever After upon marriage (for one of them, at least). Being older than 10, I couldve done without Olaf entirely, but I also wish he wasnt such a Jerry Lewis rip-off. Not because its Jerry Lewis, but because it seems like they just appropriated his comedic persona and performance, rather than creating a more original character. (I didnt like Wreck-It Ralphs Ed Wynn rip-off for the villain, for the same reason.) But overall, worth seeing ... and worth waiting until the sing-along showings were done and it moved on to second run.
