We get asked a lot Why do people chain their dogs? and why get a dog if you are just going to leave it outside? Some people chain dogs so that they have a guard dog. We educate owners to the fact that the BEST guard dog lives in your home and feels like a part of your family. A chained guard dog is only guarding the few feet they have to move. Not very effective. Some people chain their dogs outside because of behavioral problems, such as housebreaking and destructive chewing. We educate on how to housebreak and correct the chewing, by giving long lasting treats, more exercise and positive training. Some people chain their dogs or leave them outside 24/7 because it is what they know. Their grandparents had an outside dog, their parents had an outside dog and now they have an outside dog. We educate on the proper care and nurturing of a pet, and work to break this cycle of neglect. What is hard for most of us to wrap our heads around is that a lot of people who chain their dogs, do not feel about animals the way we do. They do not have that love in their hearts for their dog and do not believe the dog has feelings, as we do. We cannot change how someone feels, but we can educate on the proper care of their pets. What we do is enhance the lives of 24/7 chained and outdoor dogs. We supply good, warm shelter, straw, food, treats, spay/neuter, collars, and light tie outs. It is by no means an alternative to living in someones warm house, but it is BETTER than how they were living before. We get asked why cant you just take the dog? For two reasons: 1. They are not ours to take and we would be stealing if we did. 2. Where would the dog go? We have helped hundreds of dogs, and all our houses are too small for that many dogs to fit. So we do the best we can and with your help and support we will help hundreds more. I hope this sheds some light on the outdoor dog, but know that you will never really understand because to most of us, it just is not right.
