We get heart-wrenching pleas for help regularly. When we received - TopicsExpress

We get heart-wrenching pleas for help regularly. When we received a call a few weeks ago from a family who was losing their brother to cancer, very unexpectedly, we told them we would help, and to not worry. The caller was crying, however our involvement gave them HOPE. These farm animals had been the brothers life. They were his friends and companions--not food or novelties. Many had been former rescues that had been dumped on him. Days after her initial plea for help, he was dead, leaving behind over 50 animals. Thanks to our efficient networking, and the collective compassion of many, we made lots of phone calls to places that have a guaranteed commitment to the animals, and secured placement for 5 domestic ducks at Michigan Duck Rescue and Sanctuary (we are full unless for emergency roadside rescues). The goats are going to The Devoted Barn and the 14 geese to Lowell Farm & Wildlife Center. Thank you to these facilities! We continue to look for appropriate placement for the poultry who are particularly susceptible to being used for ill purposes. But as for now, we are down to 15 remaining animals, and thats a relief to the family. While we didnt take any of these animals directly into our care (none were special needs or ailing), we played a critical role in finding them lifelong homes, allowing the family a little less pressure during their mourning process. We didnt take any donations for our time, and none of the intaking organizations received a dime to our knowledge. Sometimes this is just what we are here to do, while we continue our regular services saving dogs, or our own critical farm animal or wildlife rescues. Sometimes extra time just has to be made. We are alive and healthy--and we dont take that for granted.
