We get stuck when we cling on to what we think people think about - TopicsExpress

We get stuck when we cling on to what we think people think about us. We either cling to the notion that we cannot disappoint anyone and thus grasp for perfection OR we beat up for what we have done int he past. Both of these are examples of how we deal with our perceived reputations. We really do not know what other people think of us so STOP making stuff up! You can let go of what others think of you. You can tell a different story. Meditation teaches that we can just start over and observe our breath. In live every day or every minute is an opportunity to start over. If you are striving to be a better person and snapped at someone yesterday - then try again today to be kind and courteous. If you attempted a task yesterday and that did not turn out so well, then try it again today. Pay attention to your inner chatter and start to counter the all or nothing thoughts that are causing much of our distress. If a negative thought comes up again - NO PROBLEM - just start again to counter it gently. Accept that it arose and applaud yourself for noticing it. Be patient and never blame yourself for not being perfect. You dont have to be perfect to be good! You dont have to be loved by everyone to be lovable. You dont have to be the smartest to be smart! You dont have to be liked by everyone to be likable. You dont have to shine the brightest to shine brightly. Today, give yourself permission to start over! There are many things you can do - just try and try again! Its all good!
