We got a lot of attitude at San Francisco airport at immigration - TopicsExpress

We got a lot of attitude at San Francisco airport at immigration because Susan (Spence), our kids (Mahn) and I (Singh) have different last names. At first the immigration officer wanted to know which one of us the kids were following i.e. he assumed the kids belonged to one of us and someone else (from a divorce). We emphasized the kids were ours and got heat for giving them a last name different from either of our names. Asked to explain why, I adopted a belligerent thats what we wanted to do attitude but Susan still remembers being hauled into secondary INS with me on previous occasions and reduced to tears so she started to give a long and complicated explanation about propagating a lost family name from my side. This has the desired effect of inundated the immigration official with more information than he could process and we were then approved for entry.
