We got off on this side branch while talking about pokeweed, regarding the phenomenon of building up resistance to poison oak/ivy dermatitis. Hope Im not over reaching to move the discussion onto its own thread. Its a topic that really interests me. I call poison oak the guardian of the hills. Heres my comment: As a lifelong sufferer of poison oak and poison ivy, I was thrilled to find on my own that I was able to build up a good resistance to it by taking homeopathic Rhus tox. I started with a relatively frequent dose, and gradually reduced it until I could maintain my resistance with only one pill a month. A friend reported a similar effect derived from eating it. She developed resistance, along with a real taste for it. Eventually she could wade into a patch and eat handfuls raw. Then she went away for a few months, came back and tried it again, and got the worst case ever. My resistance went away when I stopped the pills entirely for several months. It works, its real, but you have to be diligent. I assume it is a bit like a vaccination. Anyone really know?
