We got our official phonecall stating that Sophie isnt eligible - TopicsExpress

We got our official phonecall stating that Sophie isnt eligible for province-funded IBI (intensive one on one ABA program). So in a nutshell, this is the Ontario early intervention recap: -18 months on waiting list -A stack of forms, income checks, phone calls, referrals, etc -2 two-hour meetings, one hour drive away (each way). Total- not eligible. Why, you ask? Well, shes just too darn precious. Really I know, its a bit snarky of me. But- they said shes so calm, and self-regulated and affectionate, the psychologist didnt think that being locked with a therapist for 40 hours a week was to her best interest. She thinks shes much better where she is now. Now I totally agree, but it begs to wonder- why is Ontario only funding a therapy protocol which even the psychologist in charge of doesnt think is the best idea? She said Sophie would thrive better in a play-based program (we agree!). So why isnt the province funding a play-based program for kids like Sophie? To clarify, we pay out of pocket for her nursery school (we get a subsidy based on income but its not part of the early intervention- wed get it if we put her in regular daycare as well.) Im just a bit disappointed. I think there is some room for improvement here for sure.
