We got to the hospital, got checked in and in the room waiting to be called for surgery. The Anetheseologist asked if mom had been off her blood thinner and I said the the surgeron told us last Tuesday that she would need to be off the blood thinner for 5 days and that we needed to see the Cardio doc for a clearance for surgery. Mom came off the blood thinner last Friday only to be told on Monday by the Cardio doctor that she could continue taking it because it was nothing more than aspirin. My remarks to him was that aspirin thins your blood and he said to continue giving it to her, that it wouldnt hurt her. I did not take his advice until after the pre-op testing yesterday when after the testing, he once again told me that she needed to resume the aggrenox. So, this morning I gave her the aggrenox, pain pill and aniexty meds because this is what he said to do and even wrote it down on the paper he gave me yesterday. Well, when the Anetheseologist asked if she was on blood thinner and when was the last time she took it, thats when I told him what happened. He had to call the surgeon and he came and we discussed the situation and decided to be on the side of things to wait until tomorrow for the surgery. Long story short.....her surgery is at 12:30 tomorrow! Needlesstosay, I was very frustrated. I told the surgeon I thought the cardio doctor knew what he was talking about and I asked him to communicate with that doctor why he told me that. Their offices were only about 15 feet away from each other!! Well, we will try again in the morning! Pray for my nerves.
