We had a WONDERFUL and incredibly busy weekend, which is why Im a day behind on our Superhero Sunday series. Well have to call this Miracle-worker Monday! This is Amanda, one of our invaluable volunteers. I often joke that shes who I want to be when I grow up (and Im the older one). Amanda played a crucial role in the rescue of Indy, the pig. She is the reason he is going to live a long, happy life at The Pig Preserve. When we were contacted earlier this year about some chickens needing rescue, she stepped right up and began converting her shed into a chicken coop. She now has 5 chickens who are going to live out their lives as companions, not food (Amanda is vegan). When she got called out to do the ice bucket challenge, she accepted but wanted to do it for a local charity that was near and dear to her heart, and we were lucky enough to benefit. Amanda is an educator and opened up the challenge to her students, staff and parents. $5/bucket, $2/water balloon. There is video, but its 40 minutes long because thats how long it took. She said somewhere around bucket #11 the numbness set in...she raised $173 for us. Thats a lot of ice water. Amanda went with me to Indianapolis for Humane Lobby Day to get involved with changing our states woeful animal protection laws. She has fostered, adopted and transported countless animals. For everything you do, Amanda, you have our gratitude and sincerest appreciation!
